Ville Valo's fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).

Valo's "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are "unbalanced" or lopsided, and if Ville is lacking or deficient in a certain element (or elements), it simply means that he needs to consciously develop that particular aspect in order to appreciate and/or work harder in that dimension of life.

Sometimes we overestimate the element that we are least endowed with, sensing it as a lack within ourselves, but more often we neglect or ignore it. The qualities described below will be reiterated and explained in more detail in the following pages.

He is often so enthusiastically involved in his projects and intent on achieving results that Ville Valo does not take sufficient time to reflect and gain an objective sense of what he is doing. Furthermore, he is apt to override or ignore anyone who raises reasonable questions about what he is doing. Valo rarely asks for advice or seeks feedback.

Cooperating and learning how to give and take in relationships between equals does not come easily to Ville, and he is more comfortable in relationships where one person is clearly more dominant (chief-subordinate, teacher-pupil, parent-child, etc.). Ville Valo also has trouble understanding and communicating with people whose interests and approach toward life differ from his own because he tends to view differences as a conflict or threat.

Ville Valo needs to develop the capacity to appreciate differences and to see himself objectively.

Although he is energetic and confident, as described above, Ville Valo also expresses himself with a lot of feeling and sensitivity, as described in greater detail in the next chapter. Ville Valo appears less cocksure and narcissistic than he actually is.
