Although Henry Mancini appears gentle and sympathetic toward others (as explained in the previous chapter), he is also a "warrior". Mancini sometimes feels torn between these two facets of his character: the sensitive, tenderhearted, home-loving side, and the assertive, competitive, risk-taking side. People who first meet Henry Mancini often think that he is a "softy", but later find out that he is strong willed and pursues his goals aggressively.
He is a person who thrives on challenge, and he often feels that he must battle his way through life, relying on no one and nothing but his own strength, intelligence and courage. Henry Mancini believes in being totally honest, true to himself and his own vision and convictions, even if it means standing alone. Honesty, integrity, personal honor and authenticity are Mancini's gods, and he has no sympathy for weakness of character in others.
Henry Mancini craves the freedom to do things in his own way, and he works very well independently. Cooperating with others or carrying out another's will is not his style. Henry likes to be the chief - or to go it alone.
Henry Mancini loves action and if others are settling down into a nice, comfortable little rut, then he is always ready to stir things up, do something new, make changes and introduce some fresh blood. Routine and sameness are tantamount to death for him. He is not afraid of trying something that has never been done before, and even though he may sometimes be perceived as a fool, Henry Mancini also discovers, invents and initiates things that others will later emulate. Taking risks and following his own star are the breath of life for Mancini, and he wilts (or gets very frustrated and angry) if he cannot do this.
He is spontaneous, impulsive, direct, enthusiastic and assertive. Henry Mancini believes in the power of positive thinking and positive action, and he perceives himself as a strong, even invincible, person. Henry Mancini hates being ill or in a position of dependency. Accepting his own human limitations and emotional needs is often difficult for him.
He is basically aggressive in his attitudes and less adept at relating to others, picking up on subtle messages and nuances, listening, nurturing and harmonizing. He is often so fired up about his own projects or goals that he inadvertently runs over or ignores other people's feelings and interests. Being receptive and appreciative of others' contributions, ideas and feelings would be highly instrumental in improving Mancini's relationships. His impatience to get on with things causes Henry Mancini to be rather insensitive, thereby alienating others unnecessarily. He also frequently tries to accomplish his goals through anger or temper tantrums. Henry Mancini would gain much by learning to slow down, relax and sometimes just let things be, however his energetic, restless nature rarely allows Henry Mancini to do so.
His career, reputation, and public image are very important to Mancini. Henry Mancini has a strong desire to be influential or make his mark on the world. The merely personal sphere does not satisfy him; his ambitions include making a major contribution and receiving broad recognition for his unique effort and gifts. Henry Mancini may undervalue the personal or inner side of life.
He is direct, energetic, sometimes aggressive and combative. Henry Mancini often feels that he needs to fight to get what he wants, and he tends to have a "me-first" attitude that angers or irritates others. He is hasty, restless, impatient and sometimes reckless.
While Henry Mancini does have a strong drive, he frequently holds himself back. One of his challenges lies in learning to endure frustration and to patiently overcome the obstacles in his life (or his own internal caution and resistance!).
He may have had a demanding and perfectionist or absent father. In any case, a lack of support and approval, a great deal of responsibility at an early age and an underlying feeling that he can never quite measure up may hold Mancini back. While he may encounter a great deal of adversity and struggle alone through many of life's trials, this makes Henry Mancini tough and determined. However, Mancini should beware of becoming cynical, too hard on himself, and too demanding and critical of others.
Henry Mancini has a harmonious balance between his body, soul and spirit. He enjoys intellectual challenges from others, but tends to form his own mental attitudes and philosophies of life. He may be interested in studying human nature and matters of health.
Henry Mancini has a sense of good fellowship and comradeship and is very much at ease in contact with others. Mancini works successfully with others in his community, groups or associations and may get some assistance from some very powerful and influential people.
