Behind de Gaulle's rather rambunctious, sporty, exuberant demeanor (described in the previous chapter), she is also quick-witted, intelligent and in need of mental stimulation as much as physical freedom.

Yvonne de Gaulle is, in many ways, an eternal child. Her mind is bright, alert, curious, flexible, playful and always eager for new experiences - and her attention span is often quite brief. de Gaulle grasps ideas quickly and once her initial curiosity has been satisfied, she is ready to move on. Yvonne de Gaulle craves frequent change and variety, as well as new situations and people.

It may be hard for Yvonne de Gaulle to decide just where her talents and true vocation lie, for she has a multitude of interests and is loathe limiting herself by concentrating on just one. She is easily distracted by all of the other fascinating possibilities. Her curiosity and restlessness propel Yvonne toward many different experiences in life, and she is willing to taste or try anything once. Doing the same thing over and over again, even if it is something she does well, is tantamount to drudgery for de Gaulle.

Yvonne has to overcome considerable hardship in order to fulfill her personal destiny. However, she does have the strength and stamina necessary to do so. In fact, their disapproval of Yvonne and their harsh criticism are apt to be two of her greatest handicaps, and at times she may feel quite discouraged and alone. But true self-reliance and a solid sense of her own powers may well be the silver lining to that cloud in her life. Yvonne de Gaulle needs to learn to follow her own creative impulses and heart's desires, regardless of what her critics or the authorities say.

Her vitality is not up to par and her will-power a bit weak, making Yvonne de Gaulle vulnerable to swindle or deceit. Her inner discontent and casual attitude could easily lead de Gaulle into dubious schemes. Yvonne should refrain from any activity that seems to be subversive.
